BURMA/ 1st Digital art festival in Myanmar

In cooperation with the German and French embassies, they organise a project about digital arts (music - video - graphic art) for next october/november in Burma

The idea is to invite four artists, 2 French and 2 German for an artistic residence (3/4 weeks) in order to work together with Burmese artists from these 3 kind of arts, and set up an event which will be held on November 14th.
Digital arts are not well developped yet in Myanmar, but there is a great potential from some artists there. It will be the first big event about this "modern" kind of art.

During this residency, these 7 artist will have to define a common artistic project, work side by side and together, and set up an installation for an event which will be held on November 14th.
About that common work, rules are not fixed. The artist will be quite free to decide the way they want to articulate their projects, with the aim of presenting their approach of digital arts to Burmese audience during that event. About the main artsitic direction of the project, it as to be defined as well by the artists together.
For the event, the common parts should not necessarily represent the whole show. Every artist will have the opportunity to present his own works as well.
As I said, digital arts are not well developped yet there, but there is a great potential from some artists. Three Burmese artists (one for each field) will be selected (we organise a kind of small contest) before the begining of the residency.

BAREFOOT SKANK

Unter dem Namen Barefoot Skank startet die Berliner Band Jahcoozi anlässlich ihres neuen Releases eine neue Veranstaltungsreihe im WMF Club. Dazu haben sie sich namhafte Gäste eingeladen, die auch ihrerseits neue Releases zu feiern haben.

Die Kick Off Party ist also gleichzeitig eine dreichfache Release Party:
Jahcoozi, Mary Anne Hobbs und Robot Koch veröffentlichen fast zeitgleich neue Alben, PictureDisc EP/Mini-CD oder Mix CDs und werden diese im WMF live vorstellen.

Was ist Barefoot Skank?
Skank ist in der jamakanischen Dub/Reggae/Dancehall Kultur der Begriff für Tanz.
Barefoot ist der Name den Stereotyp (Wien) und Jahcoozi (Berlin) ihrem nicht leicht zu definierenden Sound geben.
Befreit von der engen Genre-schuhbox bedeutet Barefoot das freie Gratwadeln zwischen den Stilen und BPMs.
dubstep, hiphop, electronica, soul und pop. ein basslastiger Exkurs in futuristische und organischen Dance Music Gefilde.

Jahcoozi (Berlin)
sind eine der international erfolgreichsten Bands aus Berlin. Seit 2003 tourt das multikulturelle Trio (aus London, Tel Aviv und Berlin) um die Welt und hat von jedem bedeutenden Club weltweit bis hin zu Kunstausstellungen und grossen Festivals jede Bühne von New York bis Kula Lumpur gerockt. Anlässlich des Releases ihrer neuen Picture Disc EP & Mini20CD, die auf dem französischen Citizen Label erscheint, werden Jahcoozi an diesem Abend exklusive neue Tunes vorstellen und auch erstmals ihren neuen Videoclip präsentieren. Die BBC Moderatorin, die nach dem Tod von John Peel die Sendung im Bereich elektronische Musik übernahm gilt als die First Lady des Dubstep. Doch auch dieser Genrebegriff scheint zu eng zu sein, hört man sich die wöchentliche Sendung der Manchesterin an. Sie präsentiert regelmässig die neusten und besten Releases im Bereich der elektronischen Musik und zeigt neue Strömungen und Entwicklungen auf. Der spannende Verquickung von Dubstep und Hip Hop die mit Künstler wie Mark Pritchard, Rustie, Hudson Mohawke und Flying Lotus gerade stattfindet, hat sie ihre neue Mix CD „Wild Angels“ gewidment, die auf den renommierten UK Label Planet Mu erscheint.

Crunchtime / Stereotyp vs. Alhaca

Die Crunchtime Crew, im Kern bestehend aus den Wiener Produzenten Cee und Stereotyp, hat mit unterschiedlichen Veröffentlichungen in den letzten Jahren neue Standards in Sachen tieffrequenter Musik gestetzt. Das Stereo typ vs Al Haca Album von 2004 war seiner zeit weit voraus. Stereotyp hat zuletzt mit seinem KUBO Projekt auf Daniel Haaksmans Man Recordings Label für Aufsehen gesorgt. Cee ist vor allem durch Al Haca bekannt, dessen MC RQM auch bei Robot Koch`s Projekt The Tape und bei Jahcoozi als Gast zu hören war. Family Business!

Robot Koch
Der Berliner Produzent ist nicht nur als Beatmaker von Jahcoozi bekannt sondern auch als und Solokünstler erfolgreich. Er ist als Produzent und Remixer international gefragt. (u.a. Marsimoto, Miss Platnum, Cerebal Vortex und Infinite Livez). Vor kurzem hat er sein eigenes Label "robots dont sleep" gegründet, wo auch sein neues Album Death Star Droid Mitte Oktober erscheint. Seine Songs sind kürzlich in den Playlists von Mary Anne Hobbs, Rustie, Hudson Mohawke und Starky aufgetaucht. Koch ist auch für seine Mixtapes bekannt, die im Netz bereits Kultstatus haben.

Doshy ist nicht nur durch seine Realeses auf Tigerbass,Wide, Destpub und Remixe für Kid 606 aufgefallen, sondern auch durch sein eigenes Label Robox Neotech, welches durch Releases und Remixe von Stagga, Toast, Robot Koch und natürlicher seinen eigenen, von sich zu reden macht.
Im letzten Jahr noch den 4/4 Partywobble Techno verfallen, verfolgt Doshy seit diesem jahr zielstrebig die zukunftsorientierte Entwicklung der elektronischen Musik. Mit überausgelungenen Dubstep/Wonky Tunes wie Chip, Spaceattack und seiem Lopside rmx, erhält Doshy große Anerkennung in der Szene und kann sich derzeit in DJ-Sets und Mixen von Starkey, Jamie Vex´d, Akira Takeshi,Unitz, Kid 606 u.v.m. wiederfinden. Mike Slott (Dublin/N.Y.-Lucky Me/All City)

As well as a producer, Mike Slott is a true nomad who has lived in Chicago, Glasgow, Dublin and for a while now, in Harlem, New York. He has already released a couple of maxis on the Mecca of Dublin hip-hop, All City Records, as well as four EPs with Hudson Mohawke, and a collaboration with the intergalactic soul diva Muhsinah. Mike is a talented producer in a lineage of music royalty, with his father being the first major label jazz signing in Ireland. Even his cousin is an ex-member of Irelands most successful golden-era hip hop group. Not victim to expectation he wears his emersion in music very easily, moving this niche new music ever onward. If he's not in the cue of a low-cost airline you can find him in video-conference on ichat, possibley quaffing almond croissants in a slow food coffee shop. Damn that's jazz. And despite this musical traveller constantly moving off the beatne track, one way or another, he always manages to return home.

Jamie Vex'd (Planet Mu/Hotflush)

Vex’d were some of the most important early innovators of dubstep. With early 12” releases making a huge impression on the embryonic scene, the 2005 LP Degenerate (Planet Mu) established their credentials as some of the most talented and sonically ambitious producers in electronic music. While the follow up to that album is still in the works, one half of the duo, Jamie has more recently been writing alone and very occasionally setting into the DJ world, where his mixes of some the freshest sounds from the UK with the distorted Vex’d snarl have destroyed dancefloors across the globe.

It's been a good six months since Jamie Vex'd graced us with a riotous remix of Scuba's "Twitch" on Hotflush, by far the most extroverted contribution to what has already become a seminal mix series and a paradigm example of just how jaw-droppingly good "wonky" can be when done properly. Happily, this release sees him ploughing much the same terrain by way of three bold, dazzling cuts that positively burst with wit and vitality.

Opener "In System Travel" sounds like a queasy, spazzed-out afterthought to the aforementioned rework, similarly loose and spiralling, but a good deal calmer too, alluding as much to the jazzy ruminations of trip-hop stalwart Amon Tobin as to labelmate Boxcutter's synapse-melting neo-junglisms. Over on the flip, "Saturn's Reply" comes off like a bastardized, funk-fuelled take on the whole electro/glitch-hop crossover school, pitching fat splodges of '80s analogue bass against a jerky array of spliced breaks and fuzzy, day-glo synths. For a debut solo outing, it's frighteningly confident stuff.

But the real treat here is "Radiant Industry." A colossal piece of bass engineering guaranteed to slaughter even the nastiest of house parties (never mind suitably well-rigged nightclubs), it must surely rank as 2009's fattest (read: phattest) tune so far. Consisting of one lazy-ass drum break, a selection of Soulwax-friendly rave clips and a downright illegal bassline that I won't even attempt to describe, it's Full Body Music of the highest calibre, steroid-fuelled and tweaked to within inches of its life. If it doesn't make you smile—and furiously so—then you've probably got tinnitus. Granted, there's something annoyingly provisional about all three tracks here—none of which extend beyond the four minute mark—but when music sounds this darn alive, it's hard to really give a monkeys. Blue Daisy (London-Black Acre)

Probably one of London's best kept secrets ...

'Space Ex' - featuring treated vocals from LaNote - is the soul-stunning A-side that sounds like the work of a hugely experienced producer, but if this really is a debut release then we'd recommend keeping a very close eye. The track breathes heavily with a beautifully subtle inhale/exhale compression technique lending a hazy balance of pressure undulating between spacious atmospheres and overcast tempestuousness until the fronts meet to precipitates a piquant Kraftwerkian melody. 'The Fall' on the flip is a purely instrumental cut, shorn of vocals to reveal the full majesty of Blue Daisy's production, sounding here like a garage/house hybrid rhythm that's been left in the midday sun to wither and wilt and then played from a carnival soundsystem three streets away.

One of the singles of the year? Most likely. (Boomkat)

French synth-hero Debruit is a musical idiot savant. Xavier Thomas mixes Congolese drums with dirty grooves and Souk from Tunesian back alleys into eclectic electronic music. Passing through Paris, you might want to hide your sound-files from him. Be they flamenco guitars, your latest rhymes or just plain old field recordings, once they enter his Macbook they will emerge as something unrecognizable. Whether as part of his hip house project Kéèclac or a hard stepping electro hip hop act called débruit., with an EP on Musique Large. What remains will sound something like electro sounds mixed with old school hip hop ready to take on the world.

Doshy started with digtial mediums in 1999, after a lot of influence from sc-fi books & films, and 80s
and 90s electro music.. He became heavily inspired by creating art in a digital- future way,
and serious in developing future electronic music. He´s focus on digital mediums is because his
guiding principle is : "Try to make future-art, not retro-art, todays retro-art are in a way wrong because
these art were a view into the future at their time. Take the influences and form it into new ideas ."

At this moment, Doshy is at the forerunner of the up and coming Berlin scene;
dubstep and electronic producers inspired by the city's vibrant
clubscene,
yet bored with the static of it's oversaturated retro minimal
obsession.
Hailing from friendly South Bavaria(Augsburg), where he produced some
breakcore for PeaceOFF and wonky techno for Bombtrap, Doshy moved to
Berlin,
and became heavily inspired by the young new artists' digital,
forward thinking
productions.
Locked into his studio all winter 2008 with his trusty Korg MS10,and
wired old arp-synth plugins.
he created a lot of tunes and they are just the start of Doshy's
ongoing musical evolution.
His music is the missing link between Mr. Oizo's "Flatbeat", Subhead,
old Neil Landstrumm
and current UK bassbinshifters like Zomby, Hyperdub, Starkey, Rustie
and Kanji Kinetic. His tunes are funky, massive dancefloor stompers
with massive futurebass and partysounds from outerspace.

Germany’s Doshy is set to release his debut WIDE EP on September 30th 2009. “Wobble”, “Captain Future is Dead” and “Worgg” are prime chunks of 4×4 funk that mix Bassline, Electro and techno. the EP also features a remix of “Worgg” by WIDE’s latest signing ReSketch from the UK.

UK producer ´STAGGA´ originally creating movements from his home town of Cardiff now residing in Berlin. A newer face to the Dubstep scene he has already been grabbing the attention of the likes of Maryanne Hobbs (BBC Radio1), Rob Da Bank (BBC Radio1), Huw Stephens (BBC Radio1) and receiving set plays by names like Crisis (Rinse FM), Starkey (Planet Mu / Radio1 Generation Bass), RSD (Punch Drunk) and Raffertie (Planet Mu) to name a few, with wheel backs from all corners.
His debut release, Policeman Get Hype/ Jaqueline, which came out recently on Rossi B & Luca´s Rudeez label, is out there doing its work around global club land, whilst Stagga´s follow up ´banger´, Sick As Sin, which came out last month on South London´s Rag & Bone label, has been blowing up spots on a global level. With a ground breaking viral video tuboot, this producer seems set for bigger and bigger things. Watch this space for the next installment.

Doshy is at the forerunner of the up and coming Berlin Technowobble
movement. Electronic producers inspired by the cities vibrant clubscene
yet bored with the staticness of it's oversaturated minimal obsession.
Hailing from friendly South Bavaria, where he produced some breakcore
for PeaceOFF and wonky techno for Bombtrap, Doshy moved to Berlin, shared a flat with
Jamie from Vex'd and became heavily inspired by his forward thinking
productions and LFO trickery. Locked into his Studio all winter with his trusty Korg MS10,
these 4 tracks are just the start of Doshy's ongoing musical evolution.
This ep is the missing link between Mr. Oizo's "Flatbeat", Subhead, Neil Landstrumm
and current UK bassbin shifters like Sinden, Herve, Si Begg, Zomby and Kanji Kinetic.
Every track is a funky four on the floor dancefloor stomper with massive futurebass
and partysounds from outerspace. And for those into the harder stuff the Kid606 remix of "BlaBlaBla"
is a powerful 140 bpm subbass techno slammer, hypercompressed to the breaking point
with punishing amen's, reggaeton snares, and halftime dubstep breakdowns.

Nicht bei uns allerdings und erst recht nicht an diesem Abend!
